Pete’s Sneak Peeks 2023

Ahead of the full 2023 artist lineup announcement in May we’re offering you a small but tasty sampling of the brilliant artistry you can expect to discover on VFMF stages this summer.

Namgar Lhasaranova comes from the east borderlands, where Russia, Mongolia and China meet, and her voice is as immense as her Siberian homeland. With her group, Namgar, she creates a musical experience that doesn’t sound quite like anything else.

Guitar aficionados of the world (and everyone else) – prepare for a Moment. One of the most respected and renowned guitarists in music history will be in the park. Friends, Albert Lee is coming to town!

From Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, singer/songwriter Susan O’Neill has been described as “audacity personified, a free spirit, a real performer” with a timeless voice that’s “equal parts balm and blowtorch.”

Celeigh Cardinal is a soul-folk songstress from the northern prairies, and a 2020 JUNO Indigenous Album of the Year winner. It’s been said she’s “quickly becoming one of the great Canadian voices.”

Cameroonian-born Blick Bassy is a unique voice in African music. He sings in his native Bassa, but his musical travels include the blues, samba, bossa nova, folk, and beyond.

A Chicano band from East LA, Las Cafeteras fuses spoken word, an urban attitude, and folk music with traditional son jarocho. They sing of civil rights, the United Farm Workers, immigration – their music is a tool for inspiring positive change.

Isn’t this already a festival where you want to be? Get ready for an unforgettable weekend of music, culture and community!

Calling all Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of our festival, pure and simple. They connect artists and audiences, warmly welcome and assist thousands of festival-goers, work toward a zero-waste environment on-site, perform technical setup duties and manage the stages – and much more.

Their commitment and energy is the driving force behind the festival’s success – plus they have a great time and make new friends in the process! Come join the team. Sign up today and be part of something truly remarkable.

Yes Folks, You Can Help

The VFMF depends on donations from folks like you to survive and thrive. In fact, any contribution that you can make, big or small, has a tremendous impact on the Festival’s ability to bring exciting, interesting and talented artists from around the world to your doorstep.

Please consider making a donation today or adding a donation to your ticket purchase – and help ensure that the Vancouver Folk Music Festival can continue to flourish for years to come. Thanks for your support.

A Message from the Board

Thanks to your support and a lot of folks’ hard work, dedication and enthusiasm, we’ve made major progress in a very short time. A 46th annual festival is happening! The board has been busy meeting together, and with many others, to plan, rebuild, finance and organize the presentation of the 2023 VFMF based on last year’s version. Artists are being engaged, festival operations are gearing up, staff is coming on board, and we’re thrilled that tickets are now on sale. We’re looking forward to the exciting work yet to come, and to seeing you in the park again this summer. We thank you all for your continued support!

– Erin Mullan & Anne Blaine on behalf of the VFMFS Board of Directors
