The Carper Family (TX)
The Carper Family is a family band like no other, spinning out the effortless harmonies of a born-family with the range and diversity of a one created by choice and plain good luck. Whatever the bloodline, their music hits the ear with both depth and simplicity, capturing the essence of true country music.
The Austin-based trio of Melissa Carper (upright bass), Beth Chrisman (fiddle), and Jenn Miori (guitar) apply signature, stunning three-part harmonies to bluegrass, old-time, country and swing tunes of the standard and original variety, pushing and honoring American musical traditions with every step. Recipients of the 2012 Independent Music Awards’ Best Country Album, they’ve graced stages from the legendary beer joints of Austin to crowded festivals from Alaska to Norway. They are always looking forward to crossing and re-crossing the continent with their special formula for great acoustic music.
As Jim Caligiuri of the Austin Chronicle wrote, “(The Carper Family) blend their voices immaculately and write warm and enticing songs that sound like they were new 50 years ago.” The band’s original material ranges from the deeply-moving to the profoundly quirky, and their catalogue of lesser-known country music gems is impressive for such a young group. The Carper Family’s dedication to the rich and sprawling history of American country music and the joy they bring audiences with their crystalline sound guarantee not only that these gals will be playing this new-old music for years to come – but will get a down-home, west coast welcome at the fest.
