Suzie Ungerleider

British Columbia

The daughter of a noted local education hero, Suzie Ungerleider has continued the family business by other means, promoting thought and reflection in song.

Once known as Oh Susannah and living in Toronto, Ms. U has returned to home base and name. If you want to know why, check out her website where an autobiographical essay tells the tale and much more. The change has been documented in her latest, JUNO-nominated, recording, My Name is Suzie Ungerleider.

That makes ten albums if you are counting. It is also commemorated with a collection of great new songs that cover the years and miles travelled. “Mount Royal” draws on her life in Montreal in her teens, just starting out. “Pumpkins” celebrates the gourds and fall. There is a powerful song about her daughter, now the age Suzie was when she started embracing folk music and Americana and Stephen Foster’s songs, one of which gave her a moniker.

Now Suzie Ungerleider is home in every sense, and confidently creating new songs in her own voice and name. With a quarter century of artistic practice, hundreds of shows and a deep repertoire of songs, Suzie Ungerleider brings it all back home to Jericho Beach again.
