Ruth Moody | MB/TN

A classically trained pianist and gifted multi-instrumentalist with a captivating soprano voice, Ruth Moody was born in Australia, grew up in Winnipeg and toured the world as a member of the JUNO Award-winning folk trio, The Wailin’ Jennys. She is also a solo artist of exceptional depth and grace in her own right.

She has performed in sold-out venues around the world, made several critically-acclaimed solo albums, and has appeared more than a dozen times on the popular American radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Critics have lauded her ethereal vocals, skillful musicianship, and insightful songwriting. Written with maturity and wisdom, her lyrics reflect her innate ability to mine a deep emotional core – they’re timeless, intimate, and exquisitely crafted. Moody’s sweet and sultry voice draws you in, and she sings with an intimacy and honesty that is unmistakably hers.

The San Diego Union Tribune praised her subtlety and grace in performance, and her impressive ability “to convey deep feelings without ever over-emoting.” American Songwriter Magazine called her “a Canadian folk-treasure.”In July, VFMF audiences will get to share in this wealth.

Also appearing in American Beauties: Songs of the Grateful Dead Re-Imagined.
