Riit (NU)
Riit, originally from Pangnirtung, Nunavut, is a songwriter, throat-singer, and accordion-player whose sound expands into the realms of indie, electro, and synth pop. Riit’s music makes a unique and compelling contribution to the growing amount of radio-friendly music being made – but also now being heard – in Indigenous languages.
Since releasing her debut self-titled EP last summer, Riit has been nominated for Best Radio Single at the Indigenous Music Awards and a Western Canadian Music Award. To add to her list of achievements, Riit also hosts a brand new kids show, Anaana’s Tent, which offers Inuktitut-language, Sesame Street-style educational programming. Season one of Anaana’s Tent is currently airing on APTN.
She is part of the youth music movement in Nunavut and has shared the stage with some of the top Inuit artists including Twin Flames, Elisapee, and the Jerry Cans. Riit is currently working on her first LP.
