Mimi O’Bonsawin
Ontario

Mimi O’Bonsawin’s nature-inspired songwriting and rhythm-propelled sound embrace her connection to the land as a member of Odanak First-Nation. Growing up in Northeastern Ontario, her music is deeply-influenced by both her French Canadian and W8banaki (Abénaki) heritage.
Acoustic-driven arrangements are embellished with rootsy, soulful melodies and contemplative lyrics–layered with percussion harmonies that let you feel the music, not just hear it.
Mimi draws a parallel with music and gardening, “They both start with a seed, and with proper care, can grow into a beautiful garden that we all can share. I put intention and love into every seed and every note.”
Mimi performs with her husband Ryan Schurman on drums and has toured from coast to coast in Canada as well as in France in 2024. She released a live recording last year as a follow up to two back-to-back releases in 2023 with Willow and Boréale. Her early work includes recording in both English and France, and Mimi also composes for film and TV.
The couple are back on the road this summer marking their way to the West Coast to perform their roots music that lifts the spirit, perfectly set to the backdrop of ʔəy̓alməxʷ Jericho Beach Park.
