Songs of Resistance and Resilience
featuring the Sojourners, Krystle dos Santos and Candus Churchill

With an extensive history of activism as reflected in work with his vocal group, The Sojourners, and as a solo artist, Marcus Mosely has firmly established him as the conscience of Canadian roots and gospel music. Originally from Texas, Marcus first arrived in BC in 1985 and over the years, he’s graced more stages in Vancouver than anyone can count and has truly become a national musical treasure. For this year’s festival, he’s gathered The Sojourners (Will Sanders, Khari McClelland, and himself) as well as powerhouse singers Krystle dos Santos and Candice Churchill to create a very special presentation, which he’s calling Songs of Resistance and Resilience.

Marcus explains, “If you look at the world today, there is a need to feed the fires of resistance and remind ourselves of our innate power to affect change in the world. This is not a sprint. It’s gonna be a long haul. The songs that we plan to perform will be taken from the beloved canon of Black American Gospel, protest, jubilee, and blues music that has sustained generations of freedom fighters.”

Take in Songs of Resistance and Resilience, and you’ll be reassured that this is not the time to give up. Marcus and his ensemble’s music will help us find the strength to fight, get knocked down, brush ourselves off and start all over again.
