Making Movies

California / Montana

From delicately arranged Tears for Fears covers to full-on dance rave ups, Making Movies’ musical odyssey is an inspiring and intoxicating journey to indulge in.

The Kansas City-based band’s sound encompasses the entirety of the Americas, not solely that of our Southern neighbours, and inarguably centered in the mainstream of everything. It’s through this broader perspective that Making Movies crunches classic rock into Latin American rhythms — African-derived percussion and styles like rumba, merengue, mambo and cumbia — in a way that feels oddly familiar, yet delivers the invigorating chills of hearing something singularly special.

Making Movies is enthusiastically committed to bringing life to musical history, to uncovering connections between genres and cultures to create something that sounds both familiar and new. But, don’t worry!  The members of Making Movies resist the temptation to educate or descend into dry and academic musicological rants. Their goal is to create music that resonates with every bit of their individual identities, making their live shows journeys of discovery that focus on a full appreciation of the moment.

In every performance, they are wholly present, feeling every original groove with the same rush as when they first experienced it.  Making Movies will help you rediscover the joy of music that brought you to this festival in the first place.
