Put some Soul in your Steel with Krystle Dos Santos and Orchard Sky!

This project, with Krystle Dos Santos and Mitch Smith, draws on the rich connection between country and Black music. From the African origins of the banjo, to Louis Armstrong playing with Jimmy Rogers, from Ray Charles presenting Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter.

Dos Santos and Smith put the band together in 2022 and have been building the buzz ever since with an EP and a sequence of good time singles including their crowd-pleasing favourite, “Canadian Party Song.”

Krystle’s original interest in forming the duo was about representation, “I thought it would be a great opportunity to sing and be in a band that played a style of music that I didn’t get to perform very often. I also felt that it was a very cool opportunity as a Black female, to create representation in an area of the music industry that we are usually not seen. It feels good to get back to the Alberta roots I grew up in and sing this catchy and fun music.”
