Jay Malinowski & The Deadcoast (BC)

Front man for the JUNO award-winning Bedouin Soundclash, solo musician, author, visual artist and co-founder of Pirates Blend Records, Jay Malinowski is all about embracing the adventure.

His daring spirit recently led him into the company of a Vancouver-based string trio called The End Tree. Together as “Jay Malinowski and The Deadcoast”, the group released Indian Summer, a five song EP in 2012, and then created a two-album masterpiece called Martel, released in February. With Martel, Malinowski takes us on a personal journey sparked by his fascination with an ancestor, Charles Martel. Epic in scope, remarkable in its reach, the album explores life questions through this actual, and fictionally re-imagined, forebear. It’s an artistic journey that spans centuries, bridges continents and cultures, and features a remarkable cast of characters. The recording project is accompanied by an illustrated novel “Skulls and Bones”, which follows the voyage of Charles Martel and the Martels that followed.

The music follows in that spirit of adventure, encompassing California pop, New Orleans jazz, Spanish flamenco, Louisiana Cajun, Old World classical, Maritime shanties, ragtime piano, vaudeville and so much more.
