Since forming in the summer of 2010, the seven members of the High Bar Gang have been bringing their unique and vibrant take on old time bluegrass to folks across Western Canada.

Sublime vocal harmony is key to the band’s sound, and the blend of Shari Ulrich, Wendy Bird, Kirby Barber, guitarist Barney Bentall and banjo player Dave Barber’s voices is simply stunning.

Supported by Rob Becker on bass, and Colin Nairne on guitar and mandolin, the band’s repertoire stays mostly rooted in the golden age of bluegrass music with songs by the likes of Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers and Del McCoury.

As reported in Stir, “every member of the group has performed for decades in various other top Vancouver bands and each is a star in their own right.” The Gang’s music is truly a group-of-good-friends effort – there’s no one ‘in charge’. Says Ulrich, “It’s all about serving the music and the support that we beam to each other while we’re playing it.”

And “beam” they do, each clearly loving every moment of delivering timeless tunes and catchy melodies – playing fast, singing multi-part harmonies that send shivers up your spine – and having fun.
