Dobet Gnahoré

Grammy winner Dobet Gnahoré is one of Africa’s most exciting and enduring musical talents. With her soaring voice, sinuous dance moves, powerful presence and richly emotional songs, she has established a unique place in the continent’s evolving musical traditions.

Gnahoré was born into one of Côte d’Ivoire’s most prestigious musical families. Her father, the renowned master percussionist Boni Gnahoré, rigorously trained her in the music, dance, theatre, fashion and poetry that serve as her foundation to this day.

In recent years, Dobet has branched out from the acoustic music that defined her early career to explore modern Afropop with its danceable grooves, electronic beats, nimble electric guitar lines and catchy melodic hooks.

Exploding with hope and positivity, Dobet’s new songs explore the concept of freedom – the freedom to blend the urban energy of modern Africa with its vibrant ancestral rhythms – the freedom to pay tribute to the women of today and tomorrow, to use her words and image to empower a new generation of daring, strong and independent African women.
