Vancouver Folk Music Festival 2024

Daniel Lapp & TMT

British Columbia

Daniel Lapp is no stranger to VFMF audiences, having appeared frequently over the years with a wide range of iconic west coast performers as well as his own Lappelectro. Those credits do not scratch the surface of this talented and in-demand musician.

This ensemble features Daniel with three Vancouver Island teens who are members of Daniel Lapp’s BC Fiddle Orchestra. TMT perform electrifying arrangements of original fiddle tunes and tunes taken from Daniel’s collection of over 3000 indigenous BC tunes collected from over 300 composers.

Tia Greenwood (cello) was featured in last year’s Rifflandia festival with her own band for a set of her original compositions. She closely follows the work of 70 international folk music cellists on a list that she keeps with her at all times and adds to frequently. Max Francis (fiddle/guitar) was the youngest BC Fiddle Champion at age 11, the 2023 US Junior Champ and Bob Wills Texas State Champion, placing 7th and 5th in the 2022 & 23 Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Championships – the youngest entrant ever invited. Nateo (Teo) Thompson (piano/accordion) first started piano lessons with Daniel at a fiddle camp in the Cariboo when he was six-years-old. Now, more than 10 years later, he has performed with the Prince George Symphony, played concerts in Ireland and has recorded 2 albums with The Thompson Brothers Band.

It was 1994 when Lapp followed his muse and brought together his private fiddle students to form the BC Fiddle Orchestra for a performance in front of 60,000 in Victoria’s Inner Harbour for the Opening Ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games. Now, 30 years and hundreds of alumni later, the BCFO flame continues to burn bright with a new legion of teens carrying the torch of Canadian, and more specifically, West Coast fiddling.
