BuenRostro

Mexico

Sort of a nickname for ‘handsome!’, BuenRostro is a sextet from Mexico City, one of the world’s biggies with twenty odd million folks in its metropolitan area. It has its own distinct ‘chilango’ culture, as well as being a melting pot of the various ethnicities and languages spoken by Mexico’s 127 million inhabitants with their 68 or so languages. In fact, the group credits their Nahuatl (the language the Aztecs spoke) speaking elders for their love and respect for their traditions. Their lives as young Mexicans brings modernity and openness to a vast array of music – some Mexican, some not.

BuenRostro draws from all that, creating a mixture where pirekuas from Michoacan, jarocho sounds from Vera Cruz, and huastecan falsettos from San Luis Potosi meet rock and jazz from you know where, samba from Brazil, cumbia from Colombia, festejo from Peru and lots more.

It’s fun, it’s interesting, and for over a dozen years it has captivated listeners. Prepare to be captivated and captured yourself! The groups members are Arturo Barcenas (guitar), Carlos Pacheco (accordion), Eluterio BuenRostro (bass, vocal), Enrique “Flaco” (Peruvian box, congas), Lupita Buenrostro (vocals, jarana) and Santiago Buck (drums).
