“…lyrical and haunting, with a depth of feeling – sometimes raw and palpably authentic – you don’t find so often.” [Penguin Eggs]

The husband/wife duo of Peter Stone (vocals, guitar) and Denise MacKay (vocals, guitar), along with multi-instrumentalist Scott Zubot, make up the Edmonton-based folk trio 100 Mile House.

The band is born of two continents. After Denise and Peter met in Toronto, the couple lived together in Edmonton for a year, moved to London (where Stone is from) for four, and eventually returned to Alberta’s capital where they connected with Zubot. Their distinctive sound borrows of bit from both sides of the Atlantic, both the cosmopolitan and from the prairie, featuring insightful and evocative lyrics, beautiful harmonies, and great arrangements.

Since 2009 they have toured Western Canada a few times and travelled further afield, and waltzed away with 2 Calgary Folk Music Festival Songwriting Contest wins and other nominations and awards. Their latest release, Wait With Me, is their third full-length album, debuting at No. 1 on the mighty CKUA radio across Alberta. It’s packed with haunting and highly personal songs – the lyrically-driven roots tunes that have gained them a devoted following in the Canadian music scene and beyond.

100 Mile House has played almost every folk festival in Western Canada over the last few years, so it’s high time we welcomed their intimate and timeless sound to the VFMF. Come discover.
