Phildel (England)
Phildel is a compound name – made up of her two parents’ names: Philip and Della. Her father is Chinese and her mother, Irish. Despite being off to a good start, at the age of 8, Phildel’s life spiraled into what can only be described as a Dickensian-style story. Her mother married a harsh fundamentalist, and music became a forbidden evil. For the next decade she could only glimpse music at school at lunchtime, and at 17 she ran away from home to follow her musical dreams. Her first homemade demo attracted attention, and by 2007, her epic and moving music was used on one of the UK’s most high profile advertising campaigns. Other successes followed, and today her music is everywhere in the UK. She sounds only like herself, music is her voice and her solace, it’s dreamy and tightly-wound, unbound by convention.
