Henry Wagons (Australia)

Part Lee Hazlewood, part Roy Orbison, part Nick Cave, Australian singer-songwriter Henry Wagons has a knack for Americana song craft as well as a wry sense of humor. He’s a renaissance man, armed with a unique swagger reminiscent of a day when front men gave back bucket loads of charm and were shrouded in enigmatic mystery.

Unanimously lauded as one of one of Australia’s great entertainers, a Henry Wagons show draws on a broad-ranging swag of influences. Expect a high flying roller coaster ride that takes you from the bluster of sweaty jumpsuit era Elvis (post karate kicks), to the tenderness of a recently heart-broken Roy Orbison.

After many years fronting the floor-fracturing outlaw band Wagons, Henry recently recorded his first full length solo album entitled After What I Did Last Night… in Nashville. It offers up a wild combination of off-kilter honky-tonk and roots rock – all delivered in his resonant, richly expressive baritone voice. His songs are packed with wickedly dark wit and entertaining tales of drunken bar fights, morning-after laments and strange encounters in Poland.

A true sensation when he first played the festival with his band in 2014, we welcome Henry back to Vancouver, more than ready for another round of that special Wagons je ne sais quoi.
