Kung Jaadee

In addition to returning favourites like Pete “Redbird” Graham, whose stilting family brings a smile to many faces – there is a lot to discover!

Come listen to compelling stories by indigenous storyteller, educator and author, Kung Jaadee, who belongs to the X̱aayda (Haida), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Tlingit, Tsleil-Waututh Nations, and is also part Hawaiian.

See youth performing for youth! Get in the groove with the Sarah McLachlan School of Music marimba team, and the Saint James Academy marimba group.

Xetse’mits’a Candace Campo

Deer Crossing the Art Farm offer a wild and wonderful experience with their interactive art installation, Eye of the Octopus. The installation will feature a highly intelligent and sacred being, the Octopus. As a strong spirit in Salish culture, our partner, Shíshálh and Skwxwú?mesh Knowledge Carrier Xetse’mits’a Candace Campo will ground the story of this being in our engagements and interactions. A huge fabric parachute will be transformed, featuring the spirit of an Octopus. Get messy with us and decorate the parachute Octopus!

Our Little Folks volunteers will offer an Under the Sea themed Creation Station, where kids of all ages can create cool creatures and take-home art. Visit the expanded water play zone that includes water toys, bubbles and wands!

Back by popular demand is Angela Brown’s Nylon Zoo where children can gather inside a huge inflatable salmon to hear a story and then dress up and follow the leader in a parade

We also have a dedicated baby change and nursing tent for the littlest attendees.

Stay Tuned: Full schedule and list of partners to be announced soon!

This year we’re partnering with Kids Up Front to ensure that every child can enjoy the festival, regardless of financial barriers.

We can’t wait to see you for a weekend filled with fun, creativity, and culture at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival!
