What memory stands out most when you think of your time at the Festival?
I’m having too much trouble thinking of just one! I always love those times at workshop stages where a group of artists all play together on each other’s songs. I also love when artists on these stages teach the audience a refrain and suddenly there’s a huge group musical collaboration. These performances are pretty much once in a lifetime, and in between stages I love sharing what I’ve seen and heard and hearing about others’ experiences in turn!
Why do you volunteer for the Festival? What inspires you?
I’m continually inspired by how the Festival at heart is a large group of people from many different backgrounds all coming together to create a temporary world. From the staff to the volunteers to the artists and the wonderful people who attend, everyone plays a part in creating the wonderful atmosphere of the Festival.
What’s your favourite part of the Festival?
From a musical perspective, the workshop stages and how I will always discover a few artists that I can’t believe I didn’t know about before. I always fall in love with new (to me) music! From a volunteering perspective, because I tend to be around the site for the few days leading up to the Festival (including very early on Friday morning), just seeing how it all comes together is really exciting.
What advice would you give to new volunteers?
Get as much variety as you can! Within your committee, try to learn as much as you can about what you do, and when possible try out different tasks/roles. An then explore the site! Check out different states, see artists you aren’t familiar with, and enjoy different experiences. There’s so much to do and it’s all worth checking out!
