Vancouver Folk Music Festival Volunteer Value Statement:
Volunteers are essential to the operation, and integral to the success, of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival in carrying out its mission and vision. The Vancouver Folk Music Festival values the time, talent, experience, knowledge, and commitment contributed by our volunteers. We value volunteering as an opportunity for people to connect, engage and discover joint solutions through the sharing of individual`s experience both outside and within the Festival. We are committed to offering our volunteers appropriate and meaningful responsibilities, suitable orientation and training, effective leadership, evaluation, and recognition. Volunteers are expected to be dedicated to the mission and vision of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, to perform their duties to the best of their abilities, and to be ambassadors of the Festival, sharing the joy and passion of the Festival with all involved including each other, the artists, and the public.
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival agrees to the following understanding with volunteers:
- Volunteers will have access to the Festival site for the weekend.
- Volunteers will have access to the back stage area (excluding Artist Lounge & Artist Pre-performance areas).
- Volunteers will have access to the kitchen area and meals without charge (with the exclusion of breakfast and special beverages).
- Volunteers may, based on committee, receive volunteer t-shirts; volunteers will be asked to make a $15 contribution to the cost of these t-shirts.
- Volunteers will be treated with consideration and respect at all times, and will be able to discuss any and all issues which may occur on site with either their team coordinator, the volunteer check-in coordinator, the volunteer assistant, or the volunteer coordinator.
- Volunteers will have access to the Festival’s volunteer party on the Festival weekend, without charge.
The Volunteer agrees to the following understanding with the Vancouver Folk Music Festival
- Volunteers will complete and submit a Volunteer Application Form.
- Volunteers will attend scheduled committee meetings and training sessions.
- Volunteers will check-in each day upon arrival at the site via the volunteer check-in centre, located beside the Main gate on 4th avenue.
- Volunteers will complete all Festival assigned volunteer duties in a satisfactory way, including but not limited to: showing up on time for shifts, staying for the required duration of the shift, wearing volunteer t-shirt while on shift, and respectful treatment of other volunteers, staff, performers, and patrons of the Festival.
- Volunteers will abide by the policies of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, including, but not limited to: zero tolerance for the use of controlled drugs, harassment, and consumption of alcohol while on shift.
NOTE: A volunteer will ordinarily be a person 14 years of age and older, and may be of any race, gender, religion, ability, and sexual orientation.
Areas that handle alcohol require volunteers to be 19 years of age or older.
Areas in which driving is necessary require volunteers with a clean driving abstract and the appropriate class of drivers license.
Some areas may require specialized abilities and/or training.
Children of volunteers will only be permitted back stage when they are wearing the appropriate badge, and when accompanied by their parent/guardian. Badge requests for volunteers’ children must be received by the volunteer coordinator one (1) week prior to the start of the Festival. Volunteers will NOT be permitted to bring their children to their volunteer shifts.
Volunteers do not incur any personal civil liability in relation to any act or omission done or made by the volunteer in good faith when Volunteering for Vancouver Folk Music Festival work. The Vancouver Folk Music Festival will maintain adequate insurance and will retain legal representation for any charges of criminal or civil liability. You are not covered if you are involved in a criminal act, intoxicated (any level of alcohol) at the time, or fail to exercise due care and skill when doing the work.
