What memory stands out most when you think of your time at the Festival?
As the guy on lines for meal service I get to meet everyone and say their names. On the Sunday of the festival one guy covered his name up and asked if I remembered it. One name later and I’d landed myself a seriously good friend that I still hang out with all the time.
Why do you volunteer for the Festival? What inspires you?
I’ve been coming to the Folk Fest since I was about three years old and I don’t think I’ve missed a year. It feels really good to be able to give back to something that has been an essential part of every summer since I can remember.
What’s your favourite part of the Festival?
My favourite part of the festival the last number of years has actually been my shift! I’ve never looked forward to work before I started volunteering. I love my spot at the front of the line saying hi to each and every volunteer that comes through for meals. Its not every day you get to have a friendly conversation with two thousand people one after another.
What advice would you give to new volunteers?
Get to know your fellow vollies and always go to the volunteer party. The folk fest is seriously magic and the people behind the scenes are always great company.
