What memory stands out most when you think of your time at the Festival?

Having the chance to see people I don’t see often and meeting new folks. This year I had the opportunity to hangout backstage with someone I haven’t seen in 18 years! We had a lovely conversation about the magic of music.

Why do you volunteer for the Festival? What inspires you?

I love being apart of the Festival and really enjoy being backstage. I love watching it all come together. I’m inspired by the dedication of so many people who do their part for the sake of creating a community around amazing music.

What’s your favourite part of the Festival?

Besides having the chance to meet up with old friends and meeting new folks I love hearing amazing music that I knew nothing about before the Festival. After every Festival I have a new collection of great music that I can introduce to other people. And doing research on my new favorite musicians leads me to even more music. I really appreciate this service. It is always an amazing moment to experience being blown away by incredible talent!

What advice would you give to new volunteers?

Enjoy yourself! See as much music as you can. Show up to your shifts! Your commitment is important to everyone at the Festival. If you’re not happy with your committee, or your duties, try to do the best you can with the situation, and enjoy your free time at the park! Also, tell your coordinator that you are not happy and things can probably change for you. This is a Folk Festival, which means it is about the Folk…there is a place for everyone at Jericho if you are willing to participate…And please remember we need you and appreciate you!
