Support the Festival Today!

It doesn't take much individually, and if many of you decide to make a small monthly donation or take out an annual membership it will make a huge impact on us.

For more information on giving to the Festival please visit our donation page or make a donation directly through Canada Helps.

Sustainability Initiatives

Environment Committee:  Waste Management

The VFMF Environment Committee has been working hard for many years to reduce waste generated by the festival, and increase the recycled and composted part of the waste.

We have been working closely with Recycling Alternative, locally owned recycling company, that has been supporting us since 1991, and together we have dramatically reduced the amount of waste we have been sending to the landfill every year.

This year we are going to do a study as a pilot project on further waste reduction methods, aiming towards a possible waste-free festival in the future.

As part of this pilot project, we will choose areas in the festival that are generating large amount of waste, and create a different “environment “ in them.

We will reduce the amount of garbage bins available in these areas, as well as significantly increasing the signage and active education, and direction by our volunteers.

We will then assess and measure the amount of waste that could not be recycled or composted, to plan for waste reduction in future years.

We are asking for your help and awareness for the success of this project.

Please do your best in recycling and composting all your waste and please be patient with us and ask the Environment Committee volunteers for help when you are not sure where to dispose of different waste items.

Together we can move towards a cleaner festival with as little waste as possible being sent to the landfill
