About Volunteering at the Festival
About the Festival
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival takes place at Jericho Beach Park, one of Vancouver’s most beautiful parks, over a three day stretch, Friday July 16th, Saturday July 17th, and Sunday July 18th. Our volunteers are an essential component to what makes this festival a success and what makes the festival run smoothly year after year. The volunteer experience is like no other with a team of 1400 plus, music from around the globe with six daytime ‘workshop stages’ and two evening stages, great food, and more! We are currently underway in our preparations for our upcoming 33rd Annual Festival and are now accepting volunteer applications from NEW and RETURNING volunteers.
Volunteer Breakdown
Our volunteer crew is broken down into different committees that deal with different aspects of the festival. A Committee Leader is in charge of each committee. The Leader is a veteran volunteer who has been with the festival for a number of years and understands the flow of the festival. The Committee Leader works closely with the Volunteer Coordinator as well as the VFMF staff to organize the volunteers and the committee’s needs for the Festival.
Volunteer Commitments
Anyone can apply to be a volunteer by reading the Vancouver Folk Music Festival’s Volunteer Policy then filling out the application. The volunteer commitments vary depending on when and where you are assigned. Pre-festival volunteers are required to work 20 to 24 hours, while volunteers who are scheduled during the festival are required to work a minimum of 13 hours. Accepted volunteers will be contacted by the committee leader who will provide information on committee orientation meetings, as well as your schedule.
The Perks
Last, but definitely not least, do volunteers get perks? Of course, in addition to becoming a member of the Folk Music Festival Family, over the Festival weekend, volunteers receive toonie breakfasts, free meals, entry to the volunteer party, as well as free entry to the Festival for the weekend.
Buddy Tickets
Buddy tickets are another perk of the festival for returning volunteers. They are a 1/2 price ticket of the advance price NOT the early bird price and includes 1 weekend pass OR 2 single day passes. They are available from June 12th to July 8th ONLY. They can be obtained by contacting the box office IN PERSON and is solely the volunteers responsibility.
